The current COVID-19 situation is causing the cancellation of major events and conferences around the world. We still hope that the ECOSS can take place as planned from the 23rd to the 28th of August 2020. We are following the evolution of the situation closely and expect to have a clearer idea in the next few weeks regarding whether it is realistic to maintain the event, or whether we need to postpone it by one year.

In order to adjust to the unknown situation, we have postponed the abstract deadline to April 30 and the registration system has been suspended until a final decision is made — if the conference is maintained this year, all registration deadlines will be extended. Participants who had already registered will be contacted once a final decision is made.

We thank you for your interest in ECOSS and ask for your patience in these exceptional times.

Welcome to ECOSS35

It is a great pleasure to announce the 35th European Conference on Surface Science which will take place at the University of Luxembourg, Belval Campus, Luxembourg, from the 23rd to the 28th of August 2020.

ECOSS is a traditional annual meeting directed jointly by the Surface Science Division of the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications (IUVSTA) and the Surface and Interface Section of the European Physical Society (EPS).

The conference provides an excellent opportunity for scientists from Europe and from all over the world to meet and discuss the latest advances in the physics and chemistry of surfaces. Furthermore, it is a forum to discuss the impact of surface science in the related innovation fields such as heterogeneous catalysis, two-dimensional materials and graphene, nanoelectronics, bio-nanoscience and energy materials.

A flourishing economy, an active commitment to research, the recent best worldwide rankings regarding personal safety in the capital and a state of the art infrastructure build an ideal backdrop for international meetings.

Luxembourg as a Research, Development and Innovation hub

The last years were marked by the move of the university and research centers to the vibrant site of BELVAL. The Luxembourg RDI hub is unique in terms of urban life with its exceptional architecture and assembles all the elements to become one of the most prestigious innovation ecosystems in Europe. A variety of research and innovation actors can be found on the site of Belval as the University of Luxembourg (UL), research institutions, a business incubator, the National Research Fund, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology and the National Agency for Innovation and Research.

The conference venue is located in the new BELVAL Campus in the south of Luxembourg.
